Nannies ยท Cape Town
Find a nanny in Cape Town
A good nanny becomes part of how your family runs. KhayaKin helps you find one who lives close by, starting in the Southern Peninsula.
What a nanny does
A nanny looks after your children in your own home, usually on set days each week. Depending on what you agree, that can include feeding and nappies, naps and routines, play and outings, preparing children's meals, and keeping the children's rooms and laundry in order. Some nannies also do general housework, and some only do childcare, so be clear about this from the start.
What to look for
- Experience with your children's ages. Caring for a newborn is very different from caring for a four-year-old.
- First aid. A current first aid certificate, ideally covering babies and children.
- References you can phone. Ask a previous family whether they would hire her again.
- Fit with your home. Pets, cameras, your approach to discipline, screens and food.
- A realistic commute. Someone who lives nearby is far more likely to arrive on time, every time.
On KhayaKin you can filter for first aid, experience, languages, days available, and whether a nanny is comfortable with dogs or cats.
Employing legally
When you hire a nanny to work in your home, you are an employer in the eyes of the law. That means a written contract, at least the national minimum wage, a payslip, UIF if they work more than 24 hours a month, and registration with the Compensation Fund. Our employer checklist walks through each step, and the employment contract template is free to use.
How KhayaKin helps
- Every carer's South African ID, or passport and work permit, is reviewed by our team before their profile is listed.
- Profiles show experience, previous jobs, languages, rates and what each person is comfortable with, and many include a short intro video.
- You can search by distance from your home, which matters in the Southern Peninsula.
- You message and arrange an interview in the app, and phone numbers are only shared once the carer accepts.
We still recommend that you interview carefully, phone references yourself and do a paid trial before you commit. Our interview questions and reference check sheet can help.
